“Authenticity Matters”  ~ The Cheesesteak Guy ~

“My wife and I recently moved here from Maryland. Today, we both decided on something new so she read a few Facebook reviews and by chance came across The Cheese Steak Guy whom everyone seems to love. So we decided to place our order on their website. The ordering process was smooth and fast.

My wife chose a large mushroom and I chose to build my own. Their selection of toppings are many so it was difficult to choose.

Eventually I went with white cheddar aioli, smoked provolone fried onions, banana peppers and a side of their fresh cut fries with the fry sauce and garlic parmesan.

Their options of bigger than a 6" and not as big as a 12", it's like perfect size. We love that they taste just like home. It took us back to the Jersey boardwalk with my family growing up! The people are super friendly and seem to really enjoy their job! We'll return for sure.”

The Cheesesteak That Changed My Life! (Seriously!)

Forget everything you think you know about cheesesteaks. This isn't just a sandwich; it's an experience. I've had cheesesteaks all over, from the supposed "meccas" of cheesesteakdom to late-night diner dives, and nothing, absolutely NOTHING, compares to this.

First, the roll. It's crusty on the outside, perfectly pliable on the inside, and holds up to the juicy, melty goodness within without falling apart. That's a feat of engineering in itself!

Then there's the steak. Thinly sliced, perfectly seasoned, and grilled to a melt-in-your-mouth tenderness. It's not chewy or greasy; it's just pure, unadulterated beefy bliss.

And the cheese? Oh, the cheese! I opted for the provolone, and it was the perfect choice. Creamy, flavorful, and melted to gooey perfection. It clung to the steak and onions like a delicious, cheesy hug.

Speaking of onions, they were caramelized to a sweet and savory perfection. Not too overpowering, just balanced and added a beautiful depth of flavor.

Honestly, I'm struggling to find the words to adequately describe how incredible this cheesesteak was. It was the perfect balance of flavors and textures. Every bite was a symphony.

A. This legendary sandwich is made from ribeye steak that is thinly sliced. The grilled steak is placed on an authentic Amoroso's Hearth Baked Roll and is topped with melted American, Cheez Whiz or Provolone cheese. Another variation of a Philadelphia cheesesteak consists of caramelized onions, bell peppers and fried mushrooms.

In our "pepper department" we have fresh jalapeños, habaneros, serrano peppers, sweet peppers, roasted garlic and banana peppers which are all cheesesteak options and especially a good option if you’re looking for that extra kick.

Q. Where did the Philly Cheesesteak originate?

A. The cheesesteak was developed in the early 20th century "by combining grilled steak, onions and cheese in a small loaf of bread", according to a 1987 exhibition catalog published by the Library Company of Philadelphia and the Historical Society of Pennsylvania.

Philadelphians Pat and Harry Olivieri often credited with inventing the sandwich by serving chopped steak on an Italian roll in the early 1930s.

The exact story behind its creation is debated, but according to many accounts, Pat and Harry Olivieri originally owned a hot dog stand, and on one occasion, decided to make a new sandwich using chopped beef and grilled onions. While Pat was eating the sandwich, a cab driver stopped by and was interested in it, so he requested one for himself. After eating it, the cab driver suggested that Olivieri quit making hot dogs and instead focus on the new sandwich.

They began selling this variation of steak sandwiches at their hot dog stand near South Philly's Italian Market. They became so popular that Pat opened up his own restaurant which still operates today as Pat's King of Steaks.

The sandwich was originally prepared without cheese. According to Pat's son Herb Olivieri, American cheese was first added by "Cocky Joe" Lorenza, a manager at the Ridge Avenue location in March of 1951. (However, other Olivieri members may say it was provolone.)

There is some dispute over whether Pat's was the first to add cheese, though to date no concrete evidence has emerged to disprove Olivieri's story.

Cheesesteaks have become popular at restaurants and food carts throughout the city with many locations being independently owned, family-run businesses.

Variations of cheesesteaks are now common in several fast food chains. Versions of the sandwich can also be found at high-end restaurants.

Many establishments outside of Philadelphia refer to the sandwich as a "Philly cheesesteak."
